Venom is #6 of 13 in release order and #7 of 13 in chronological order in the Spider-Man.

The story

Investigative journalist Eddie Brock attempts a comeback following a scandal, but accidentally becomes the host of Venom, a violent, super powerful alien symbiote. Soon, he must rely on his newfound powers to protect the world from a shadowy organization looking for a symbiote of their own.

Venom recap

A spaceship from the Life Foundation crashes in Malaysia carrying alien symbiotes, and one escapes. In San Francisco, the founder Carlton Drake experiments on homeless people by bonding them to symbiotes, most of whom die. The investigative reporter Eddie Brock loses his job and his fiancee, the lawyer Anne Weying, after confronting Drake with information from her files. Six months later, the scientist Dora Skirth lets Eddie into the lab, and a symbiote bonds with him. It calls itself Venom, gives him strength and a craving for heads, and argues with him in his mind. Drake's security hunts them, and Drake bonds with another symbiote, Riot, its leader, who plans to bring more symbiotes to Earth on a rocket.

Venom ending explained

Anne helps Venom rejoin Eddie, and Venom, now fond of Earth and Eddie, decides to fight. Eddie and Venom destroy Riot's rocket on the launch pad, killing Drake, and Venom seems to die saving Eddie. He survives, and Eddie goes back to reporting while Venom eats a robber who threatens a shopkeeper.

Post-credits scenes

Yes. In a mid-credits scene, Eddie interviews the serial killer Cletus Kasady at San Quentin, who promises there will be carnage when he gets out, setting up the sequel. The post-credits scene is a preview of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
