The story
An epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend.
The Good Dinosaur recap
The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs misses Earth, and millions of years later dinosaurs farm the land. Arlo, the youngest of three Apatosaurus children, is scared of everything and struggles to make his mark on the family's silo. His father Henry sets him to catch a creature stealing corn: a feral human boy. Arlo lets him go, and as Henry takes him after the boy, Henry dies in a flash flood. Later Arlo chases the boy, falls into the river and is swept far from home. He and the boy, whom he names Spot, become friends. On the way back they meet a Styracosaurus who collects animals, a gang of storm-chasing pterodactyls led by Thunderclap, and a family of T. rex cattle drivers, Butch, Nash and Ramsey, whom they help recover their herd from rustlers.
The Good Dinosaur ending explained
Close to home, Thunderclap's pterodactyls attack and carry off Spot, and Arlo fights them in a storm and saves him from a flash flood, overcoming his fear. Spot finds a human family and, with Arlo's blessing, leaves to live with them. Arlo returns home to his mother and siblings and adds his footprint to the silo beside his family's.
