The story
James Bond is sent to investigate after a fellow “00” agent is found dead with a priceless Fabergé egg. Bond follows the mystery and uncovers a smuggling scandal and a Russian General who wants to provoke a new World War.
Octopussy recap
Agent 009 dies in East Berlin dressed as a clown, holding a fake Faberge egg. Bond follows the real egg to an auction and to Kamal Khan, an exiled Afghan prince in India, who cheats at backgammon and is smuggling Soviet jewels. Kamal works with Octopussy, a wealthy woman who runs a travelling circus and a cult of women, and with the rogue Soviet General Orlov, who has been swapping state treasures for fakes. Orlov's real plan is to set off a nuclear bomb at an American air base in West Germany during a circus show, making it look like an accident so Europe will demand nuclear disarmament and leave the way open for a Soviet invasion.
Octopussy ending explained
Bond races after the circus train, Orlov is shot at the border, and Bond, dressed as a clown, gets into the circus and defuses the bomb with seconds left. Octopussy, who did not know about the bomb, attacks Kamal's palace with her women. Kamal escapes in a plane with Octopussy, Bond rides on its wings, and the plane crashes into a cliff after Bond and Octopussy jump off.
