Gundam recap: the story so far

Updated October 21, 2026 · 27 titles · spoilers for everything below

Gundam began with the Universal Century, where humanity's move into space colonies sparks the One Year War between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, and the rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable shapes decades of conflict that follow; it continues to UC 0105, where Bright Noa's son Hathaway leads an armed uprising against the Federation. Alongside it run separate universes, from Gundam Wing and SEED to Iron-Blooded Orphans and The Witch from Mercury, each with its own war and its own ending. The latest, GQuuuuuuX (2025), reimagines the One Year War as a war Zeon won.

Mobile Suit Gundam recap

In UC 0079, the Principality of Zeon, a space colony nation ruled by the Zabi family, has declared war on the Earth Federation and killed half of humanity in the first week. When Zeon raids the colony Side 7, teenage Amuro Ray climbs into the Federation's new prototype, the RX-78-2 Gundam, and fights back. He and a group of civilians and young recruits flee aboard the warship White Base under the inexperienced Bright Noa. Char Aznable, Zeon's masked "Red Comet", hunts them across space and Earth. Char is secretly Casval Deikun, son of Zeon's founder, and is using the war to avenge his father on the Zabis; he arranges the death of his friend Garma Zabi. The crew fights through Ramba Ral's guerrilla raids, the battles of Odessa and Jaburo, and the fall of the fortress Solomon. Amuro awakens as a Newtype, a human with heightened perception, and connects with Lalah Sune, a Zeon Newtype devoted to Char, who dies shielding Char from Amuro's attack.

Common questions

What is the Gundam story so far?
