The story
Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren encounter what would become one of the most sensational cases from their files. The fight for the soul of a young boy takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It recap
In 1981, the Warrens help a priest exorcise eight-year-old David Glatzel, and Arne Johnson, the boyfriend of David's sister Debbie, invites the demon into himself to save the boy. Ed has a heart attack and misses it. Weeks later, Arne stabs his landlord to death in a trance. The Warrens believe him, and Arne's lawyers plan a defence of demonic possession, the first in American history, which needs proof. The Warrens find a cursed charm under the Glatzel house, placed there deliberately, and learn of a similar case in which a girl was murdered by her friend. A retired priest who studied satanic cults, Father Kastner, tells them about an occultist, and they discover she is his own daughter, Isla. She is targeting Arne, who tries to kill himself in jail.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It ending explained
In tunnels under Kastner's house, Isla possesses Ed, who nearly kills Lorraine, but she reaches him by recalling the day they met. Ed smashes the altar, breaking the curse and saving Arne, and Isla is claimed by the demon she served. Arne is found guilty of manslaughter rather than murder and serves five years, marrying Debbie in prison. Ed gives Lorraine a garden gazebo he built.
Post-credits scenes
