Each film begins with someone foreseeing a disaster and pulling a handful of people out of it, after which Death comes back for the survivors in the order they should have died, through chains of everyday accidents. The coroner William Bludworth explains the rules, and Final Destination 5 loops back into the Flight 180 disaster of the first film. Bloodlines traces the pattern to a 1969 tower collapse whose survivors' whole family line is being hunted, and ends with the last of them killed.

Final Destination recap
High school student Alex Browning boards Flight 180 to Paris for a class trip and has a vision of the plane exploding after take-off. He panics, and he and several others are thrown off the plane: his friend Tod, teacher Valerie Lewton, the bully Carter and his girlfriend Terry, classmate Billy, and Clear Rivers, who leaves by choice. The plane explodes exactly as Alex saw it. FBI agents suspect him, and the survivors start dying in strange accidents: Tod is strangled in his bathtub, Terry is hit by a bus, and Ms. Lewton dies in a chain of kitchen accidents and an explosion. The mortician William Bludworth tells them Death has a design, and Alex works out that they are dying in the order they would have died on the plane, with Death skipping anyone saved.
How Final Destination ends
Alex saves Carter from an oncoming train, though Billy is decapitated by debris, and later saves Clear from a car trapped by live power lines, believing he has beaten the design. Six months later, Alex, Clear and Carter celebrate in Paris. Alex sees omens and is nearly hit by a bus, and the bus knocks down a sign that swings toward him; Carter pulls him clear, and the sign comes back and kills Carter instead.

Final Destination 2 recap
On the anniversary of Flight 180, Kimberly Corman has a vision of a huge pile-up on Route 23, caused by logs falling from a truck. She blocks the on-ramp, and a police officer, Thomas Burke, stops to question her just before the crash happens. Those she held back include a lottery winner, a stoner, a mother and son, a pregnant woman, a teacher and a businesswoman. Survivors start to die, and Kimberly visits Clear Rivers, the last survivor of Flight 180, who has committed herself to a padded room. Clear takes them to Bludworth, who tells them only new life can defeat the design. They learn each of them was saved by an earlier survivor from Flight 180, and that the pregnant Isabella, whose baby was never meant to die on the road, could break the chain.
How Final Destination 2 ends
Isabella gives birth, and the survivors believe the list is broken, until they realise she was never meant to die at all. Clear dies in an explosion. Kimberly drowns herself in a lake to cheat Death and Burke revives her, which counts as her death. Later, at a barbecue, Brian Gibbons, a man earlier saved from a van by a survivor, is killed by an exploding grill.

Final Destination 3 recap
At a theme park on graduation night, Wendy Christensen has a vision of the Devil's Flight roller coaster derailing. She gets off, and several others come off with her, but her boyfriend Jason and best friend Carrie stay on and are killed. Weeks later, Kevin, Carrie's boyfriend, tells Wendy about Flight 180. Wendy looks through photos she took that night and notices each one hints at how the person in it will die. Ashley and Ashlyn are burned alive in tanning beds. Frankie is killed by a truck's cooling fan at a drive-through, and Lewis by weights in a gym. Erin dies from a nail gun at a hardware store, and her boyfriend Ian blames Wendy. Wendy tries to save her sister Julie, who was also at the park.
How Final Destination 3 ends
At a fireworks festival, Ian is crushed by a falling sign, and Wendy, Kevin and Julie survive and seem to have escaped. Five months later, the three meet by chance on a subway train, and Wendy has a final vision of a derailment. The film cuts to black as the train crashes, killing them all.

The Final Destination recap
At the McKinley Speedway, Nick O'Bannon has a vision of a crash that brings the stands down on the crowd. He leaves with his girlfriend Lori and friends Hunt and Janet, along with others including a security guard, George, a racist tow truck driver, Carter, and a mother with her sons. The disaster plays out as Nick foresaw. Carter blames Nick and dies when his own truck drags him into flames. The other survivors die one by one: a mother in her garden, a mechanic thrown by a tire, Hunt in a swimming pool drain. Nick has more visions and tries to save the next on the list, and he and George try to work out how to cheat the design.
How The Final Destination ends

Final Destination 5 recap
On a company retreat bus, Sam Lawton has a vision of the North Bay Bridge collapsing. He gets his co-workers off in time: his ex Molly, his friend Peter, Peter's girlfriend Candice, the sleazy Isaac, Olivia, Nathan and their boss Dennis. The bridge falls as Sam saw. William Bludworth, now the coroner, tells them that if they kill someone who was not meant to die, they take that person's remaining life. Candice dies in a gymnastics accident, Isaac at a spa, and Olivia during laser eye surgery. Nathan accidentally kills a co-worker, Roy, in a factory and thinks he is safe. Peter, unhinged by Candice's death, decides to kill Molly to take her life, and kills an FBI agent instead.
How Final Destination 5 ends

Final Destination Bloodlines recap
In 1969, Iris Campbell has a vision of the Skyview tower restaurant collapsing and saves the people inside, which breaks Death's design. Decades later, her granddaughter Stefani Reyes, a college student, keeps dreaming of that night. She goes home to find Iris, who has hidden for years in a fortified cabin, and Iris tells her that Death has been killing the Skyview survivors and their descendants, and is now coming for their family. Iris then dies, impaled by a weather vane. Stefani's uncle Howard is killed by a lawnmower and her cousin Julia by a garbage truck. Her cousin Erik turns out not to be a blood relative, and William Bludworth, dying himself, tells them a death and revival might count. Erik and Bobby are killed at a hospital trying it.
