The story
In Los Angeles, a gang of bank robbers who call themselves The Ex-Presidents commit their crimes while wearing masks of Reagan, Carter, Nixon and Johnson. Believing that the members of the gang could be surfers, the F.B.I. sends young agent Johnny Utah to the beach undercover to mix with the surfers and gather information.
Point Break recap
FBI agent Johnny Utah, a former college football star, joins the Los Angeles office and is paired with the veteran Angelo Pappas, who believes a gang of bank robbers called the Ex-Presidents, who wear masks of former presidents, are surfers. Utah learns to surf from Tyler, a waitress, and falls for her. He is drawn into the circle of Bodhi, a charismatic surfer, and realises Bodhi's crew are the Ex-Presidents. After a chase on foot, Utah has Bodhi in his sights but cannot shoot. Bodhi takes Utah skydiving, reveals he knows Utah is a cop, and has his friends kidnap Tyler to force Utah to help with one last bank job.
Point Break ending explained
The robbery goes wrong, Pappas and one of Bodhi's crew are killed, and Bodhi escapes by plane. Utah jumps out after him without a parachute and catches him in mid-air, but lets him go. Months later, Utah finds Bodhi in Australia waiting for a huge storm swell at Bells Beach. Utah lets him paddle out into the waves, which certainly kill him, and throws his FBI badge into the sea.
