The story
One year after his heroics in Los Angeles, John McClane is an off-duty cop who is the wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. On a snowy Christmas Eve, as he waits for his wife's plane to land at Washington Dulles International Airport, terrorists take over the air traffic control system in a plot to free a South American army general and drug smuggler being flown into the US to face drug charges. It's now up to McClane to take on the terrorists, while coping with an inept airport police chief, an uncooperative anti-terrorist squad, and the life of his wife and everyone else trapped in planes circling overhead.
Die Hard 2 recap
A year after the Nakatomi tower, John McClane waits at Washington Dulles Airport on Christmas Eve for his wife Holly's plane. A rogue special forces unit led by Colonel Stuart seizes the airport's systems to free General Esperanza, a drug-dealing dictator being flown in for trial. With the runway lights and radio out, dozens of planes, Holly's among them, circle in a snowstorm running low on fuel, and Stuart crashes one plane to show he is serious. McClane fights the terrorists through the terminal and a church, butting heads with the airport police chief Carmine Lorenzo. Major Grant's special forces team arrives to help.
Die Hard 2 ending explained
Grant's team is secretly working with Stuart. McClane catches up with them as they try to escape on a Boeing 747, jumps onto the wing, and opens the fuel tank before he is kicked off. He lights the trail of fuel, and the plane explodes on the runway, killing Stuart, Esperanza and Grant. The fire lights the way for the circling planes to land, and McClane finds Holly. Die Hard with a Vengeance follows.
