The story

A couple begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists.

Annabelle recap

In 1967 Santa Monica, medical student John Form gives his pregnant wife Mia a rare vintage doll for the baby's nursery. That night, their neighbours, the Higgins couple, are murdered by their estranged daughter Annabelle and a man, both members of a satanic cult. The killers break into the Forms' house; the police shoot the man, and Annabelle kills herself in the nursery while holding the doll. Strange things start happening, and after Mia gives birth to their daughter Leah, the family moves to an apartment in Pasadena and throws the doll away, but it turns up in a moving box. A detective tells Mia the cult was trying to summon a demon. A neighbour, the bookseller Evelyn, helps Mia learn that the demon is attached to the doll and wants a human soul. Their priest, Father Perez, tries to take the doll to the Warrens but is attacked.

Annabelle ending explained

The demon kidnaps Leah to force Mia to give up her own soul, and Mia is about to jump from a window with the doll. Evelyn, who has carried guilt for years over a car crash that killed her daughter, jumps instead, and the demon and the doll vanish while Leah is safe. Six months later, a mother buys the doll in an antique shop for her daughter Debbie, a nursing student, and the doll is last seen in the Warrens' museum.
