Dreamcatcher recap

Dreamcatcher (2003) follows four lifelong friends from Derry who share telepathy and meet an alien invasion on a hunting trip in the Maine woods. Lawrence Kasdan directs from a script he wrote with William Goldman. Psychiatrist Henry Devlin (Thomas Jane), Gary "Jonesy" Jones (Damian Lewis), Pete Moore (Timothy Olyphant) and Joe "Beaver" Clarendon (Jason Lee) owe their gift, "the line", to Douglas "Duddits" Cavell (Donnie Wahlberg), a boy with Down syndrome they saved from bullies as children. At their cabin they take in a sick stranger, Rick McCarthy, who is carrying a parasite that bursts out and kills Beaver. Jonesy is taken over by an alien called Mr. Gray, who keeps him locked in a warehouse of memories in his own mind. The army, led by Colonel Abraham Curtis (Morgan Freeman), quarantines the area and destroys the crashed ship. Henry escapes Curtis's camp with Lieutenant Owen Underhill (Tom Sizemore) and fetches the dying Duddits.

Dreamcatcher ending explained

Dreamcatcher ends with Duddits sacrificing himself to destroy Mr. Gray. Mr. Gray, in Jonesy's body, heads for the Quabbin Reservoir to infect Boston's water. Curtis, relieved of command, attacks by helicopter; Underhill shoots him down and dies of his wounds. In the pump house, Duddits reveals his own alien nature, and he and Mr. Gray destroy each other. Jonesy, free again, crushes the last parasite before it reaches the water.
