Star Trek Beyond recap
Three years into the five-year mission, Kirk considers taking a desk job, and Spock, learning that the elder Spock has died, considers leaving to help New Vulcan. At the starbase Yorktown, an alien asks for help rescuing her crew in a nebula. It is a trap: a swarm of small ships commanded by Krall tears the Enterprise apart, and the crew is captured or stranded on a planet. Krall wants an ancient bioweapon piece that Kirk carries. Scotty meets Jaylah, a scavenger who lives in a wrecked Starfleet ship, the USS Franklin, and they use it to free the crew. Krall turns out to be Balthazar Edison, the Franklin's lost captain, who has used alien technology to extend his life and turned against the Federation.
Star Trek Beyond ending explained
The crew uses the Franklin's radio to broadcast loud music that breaks up Krall's swarm, and Kirk stops Krall from releasing the bioweapon in Yorktown. Spock decides to stay in Starfleet, Kirk turns down his promotion, and Jaylah joins Starfleet Academy. A new Enterprise, NCC-1701-A, is built and the crew sets out again.
