The story

A teenage Peter Parker grapples with both high school and amazing super-human crises as his alter-ego Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man recap

As a child, Peter Parker is left with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May when his scientist parents flee and die in a plane crash. As a teenager, he finds his father Richard's briefcase and tracks down Richard's old partner at Oscorp, Dr. Curt Connors, a one-armed scientist researching cross-species genetics. At Oscorp, Peter is bitten by a genetically altered spider. He gives Connors a missing equation, and after an argument, Uncle Ben is shot by a thief Peter let go. Peter hunts the killer in a mask, builds web-shooters and becomes Spider-Man, falls for his classmate Gwen Stacy and clashes with her father, police Captain George Stacy. Connors, under pressure from Oscorp, tests the serum on himself, regrows his arm and turns into the Lizard, who plans to turn all of New York into reptiles.

The Amazing Spider-Man ending explained

Spider-Man stops the Lizard's release of the serum from Oscorp's tower with an antidote that Gwen made, and Connors returns to human form. Captain Stacy is killed by the Lizard and, dying, makes Peter promise to stay away from Gwen. Peter keeps the promise at first, then hints in class that he will break it.

Post-credits scenes

Yes. In a mid-credits scene, a man in the shadows visits Connors in his prison cell and asks if he told Peter the truth about his father; Connors says no and tells him to leave Peter alone. It sets up the mystery of Richard Parker in the sequel.
