If Gary Oak is headed for the Sinnoh region, then Ash Ketchum won’t be far behind! Ready to take on the Sinnoh League, Ash brings along Pikachu and meets up with Brock in Sinnoh, where the pair of Trainers are soon joined by a third—Dawn, a novice Pokémon Coordinator determined to follow in the footsteps of her mother. Both Ash and Dawn struggle with their respective paths, but it’s easy for them to make new friends, gaining new Pokémon like Turtwig and Piplup.

Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl recap

In Sinnoh, Ash meets Dawn, a new Coordinator with Piplup who wants to follow her mother into Pokémon Contests, and Brock catches up to travel with them. Ash's new rival is Paul, a cold trainer who treats his Pokémon as tools; he abandons Chimchar, and Ash takes it in, and it grows into Infernape. Ash also raises Turtwig into Torterra and Gible, and Dawn's Piplup refuses to evolve. Ash wins eight Sinnoh badges while Dawn chases five Contest ribbons, losing her nerve for a time after early defeats before winning them all. Team Galactic, led by Cyrus, hunts the lake guardians Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf to make the Red Chain, which lets them summon Dialga and Palkia at Spear Pillar so Cyrus can destroy this world and create a new one. Ash and his friends stop him, and Cyrus vanishes into the distortion he opened. Dawn reaches the Grand Festival final and loses to her rival Zoey.

Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl ending explained

Ash flies home to Pallet Town with Pikachu.
