The story

Polishing off the Silver Conference, Ash heads toward his next challenge—the far-off Hoenn region! While he must say goodbye to old friends, he makes the acquaintance of May, a Trainer just starting out on her Pokémon journey. Along with her little brother Max and the ever-reliable Brock, this pack of Pokémon Trainers begin pursuing their dreams—with Ash racking up three Gym Badges, while May changes tack to follow the Contest path of a Pokémon Coordinator.

Pokémon: Advanced Generation recap

Ash sets off for Hoenn with only Pikachu, which falls ill on arrival and is saved with the help of May, a new trainer who would rather see the world than battle. May takes up Pokémon Contests, her little brother Max tags along hoping to be a trainer, and Brock rejoins the group. Ash wins eight Hoenn badges with a new team that includes Treecko, which evolves into Sceptile, and Corphish. Team Magma and Team Aqua fight over the legendary Groudon and Kyogre, a conflict that ends with both teams beaten. May finds rivals in Drew and Harley. Ash reaches the top 8 of the Ever Grande Conference before losing to Tyson. Back in Kanto, Scott invites him to the Battle Frontier, a set of seven facilities each run by a Frontier Brain, and the same four travel together again while May collects Contest ribbons in Kanto. Team Rocket follow them the whole way, as always.

Pokémon: Advanced Generation ending explained

Ash beats all seven Frontier Brains, ending with Brandon, the Pyramid King, and declines Scott's offer to become a Frontier Brain himself. The group splits: May leaves for Johto to enter Contests, Max goes home to Petalburg City to wait until he can start his own journey, and Brock returns to Pewter City. Ash sets out for the Sinnoh region with Pikachu, and Aipom stows away with him.
