The story

Teenager Riley's mind headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

Inside Out 2 recap

Riley is thirteen, and her emotions have built her sense of self from her good memories: "I'm a good person." The night before a hockey camp where Riley hopes to impress the high school team, the Firehawks, a puberty alarm goes off and four new emotions arrive: Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment. Riley learns her best friends, Bree and Grace, will go to a different school, and Anxiety takes over to make her fit in with the older players and her hero, Val. Anxiety bottles up the original emotions and sends Riley's old sense of self to the back of her mind, building a new one that says "I'm not good enough". Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust travel through Riley's mind to get her old sense of self back.

Inside Out 2 ending explained

They return to headquarters during the final game to find Riley having a panic attack and Anxiety unable to stop. Joy lets Riley's good and bad memories together form a new, more complicated sense of self, and Anxiety lets go of the console. Riley calms down, makes up with Bree and Grace, and is treated as part of the team by the Firehawks. The emotions, old and new, learn to work together.

Post-credits scenes

During the credits, Riley eats dinner with her family as her emotions work together. After the credits, Joy finds Riley's Deep Dark Secret in a vault. It is a joke and sets up nothing.
