X-Men '97 recap
This continues the 1990s X-Men cartoon in its own continuity. After Professor X's apparent death, the X-Men learn he left the school to Magneto. Cyclops and Jean Grey have a baby, Nathan, but the Jean in the house turns out to be a clone, Madelyne Pryor, made by Mister Sinister, and the real Jean returns. Nathan is infected with a techno-organic virus and sent to the future to be cured. The mutant island of Genosha is destroyed by a giant Sentinel, killing thousands, including Gambit. The X-Men learn the attack was led by Bastion, a human and Sentinel hybrid, with Mister Sinister's help. Magneto, enraged, sets off a global electromagnetic pulse, while Bastion releases new Sentinels made from humans with nano-technology.
X-Men '97 ending explained
The X-Men split between those who fight Bastion and those who join Magneto on his asteroid fortress, Asteroid M. Professor X returns from space to stop Magneto, Bastion is defeated, and the X-Men stop the asteroid from crashing into Earth. A time anomaly scatters them: Cyclops and Jean land in a far future with an adult Nathan, while Professor X, Magneto, Rogue and others land in ancient Egypt and meet a young Apocalypse. A second season is in production.
