The story

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel recap

In 1995, Vers is a Kree soldier with energy powers and no memory of her past, trained by Yon-Rogg. She is captured by Skrulls, shapeshifters at war with the Kree, who dig into her memories, and she crashes on Earth. With a young S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Nick Fury, she follows her memories to Dr. Wendy Lawson, a scientist who was really Mar-Vell, a Kree working on a lightspeed engine. Her best friend from the Air Force, Maria Rambeau, and Maria's daughter Monica tell her she is Carol Danvers, a pilot who was thought killed with Lawson. The Skrull leader, Talos, reveals that the Skrulls are refugees and Mar-Vell was helping them. Carol remembers that she absorbed the engine's energy, powered by the Tesseract, when Yon-Rogg shot it, and the Kree took her.

Captain Marvel ending explained

Carol frees herself from the Supreme Intelligence's control and unlocks her full power, destroying Kree bombers and sending Ronan's fleet away. She beats Yon-Rogg and sends him home with a warning. She leaves Earth to help the Skrulls find a new home and gives Fury a modified pager. Fury drafts the Avengers Initiative, named after Carol's Air Force call sign.

Post-credits scenes

Yes. In the mid-credits scene, in 2018 after the Snap, the remaining Avengers are watching the pager when Carol appears and asks where Fury is. In the post-credits scene, Goose the cat, who is a Flerken, coughs up the Tesseract onto Fury's desk.
