Movie, 2018, Phase 3, Set in 2017

Black Panther is #24 of 69 in release order and #19 of 69 in chronological order in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The story

King T'Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne by factions within his own country as well as without. Using powers reserved to Wakandan kings, T'Challa assumes the Black Panther mantle to join with ex-girlfriend Nakia, the queen-mother, his princess-kid sister, members of the Dora Milaje (the Wakandan 'special forces') and an American secret agent, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther recap

After his father's death, T'Challa returns to Wakanda, a hidden African nation built on vibranium, to be crowned king. He tries to capture arms dealer Ulysses Klaue in South Korea with his ex, Nakia, and his general Okoye, but Klaue is freed by Erik Stevens, an American black ops soldier called Killmonger. Erik is T'Challa's cousin: his father, N'Jobu, was a Wakandan prince killed by T'Challa's father T'Chaka for helping Klaue steal vibranium, and young Erik was left behind in Oakland. Erik arrives in Wakanda with Klaue's body, claims the throne by right of combat and throws T'Challa over a waterfall. As king, Erik plans to ship Wakandan weapons to oppressed people worldwide. The Jabari tribe saves T'Challa's life.

Black Panther ending explained

T'Challa returns, and with Shuri, Nakia, Okoye and the Jabari, fights Erik and the border tribe. In the vibranium mine, T'Challa stabs Erik, who chooses to die rather than be imprisoned, watching a Wakandan sunset. T'Challa decides to end Wakanda's isolation and opens an outreach center in Oakland.

Post-credits scenes

Yes. In the mid-credits scene, T'Challa tells the United Nations that Wakanda will share its knowledge with the world. In the post-credits scene, Bucky wakes in Wakanda, where Shuri has been helping him, and children call him the White Wolf.
