The story

Russian and British submarines with nuclear missiles on board both vanish from sight without a trace. England and Russia both blame each other as James Bond tries to solve the riddle of the disappearing ships. But the KGB also has an agent on the case.

The Spy Who Loved Me recap

A British and a Soviet nuclear submarine both disappear. Bond is sent to Egypt to find stolen plans for a submarine tracking system and keeps running into Major Anya Amasova, the Soviet agent XXX. The two services agree to work together, and they are pursued by the steel-toothed giant Jaws. In Sardinia they investigate the shipping magnate Karl Stromberg, who lives in a sea base called Atlantis. Bond escapes in a Lotus that turns into a submarine. Anya learns that Bond killed her lover in the film's opening ski chase and vows to kill him when the mission is over. Stromberg's tanker, the Liparus, has been swallowing the submarines whole.

The Spy Who Loved Me ending explained

Stromberg plans to fire the submarines' missiles at New York and Moscow, start a nuclear war and build a new civilisation under the sea. Bond, captured aboard the Liparus, frees the prisoners, reprogrammes the missiles to destroy the two stolen submarines, and the Liparus sinks. He goes to Atlantis, kills Stromberg and rescues Anya, who decides not to shoot him. They escape in a pod before the base is torpedoed, and Jaws swims away.
