King Arthur: Legend of the Sword recap

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) raises Arthur in a Londinium brothel, unaware he is heir to the throne his uncle Vortigern seized by dark magic. Guy Ritchie's ninth feature retells the legend as a gangland origin story. Vortigern (Jude Law) sacrifices his wife to sea witches to kill his brother, King Uther Pendragon (Eric Bana), and the infant Arthur escapes downriver. Grown into a street hustler, Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) is rounded up when the sword in the stone appears and every man of age is forced to try it. He pulls Excalibur free, faints from visions of his parents' death, and is set for public execution. The Mage (Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey), an acolyte of Merlin, and Uther's old general Bedivere (Djimon Hounsou) rescue him. Arthur refuses the crown until a journey into the Darklands shows him the truth about his father.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword ending explained

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword ends with Arthur accepting Excalibur and killing Vortigern, who has sacrificed his own daughter to become a demon knight again. The Mage sends a giant serpent against the castle as Bedivere's rebels attack, and Arthur takes the throne. He knights his allies and begins work on the Round Table. Planned as the first of six films, the series stopped after this one lost heavily at the box office.
