Silent Hill recap

Silent Hill (2006) follows a mother who drives her sleepwalking adopted daughter to the abandoned town the girl keeps naming in her nightmares. Directed by Christophe Gans, it adapts the first Silent Hill game. Rose Da Silva (Radha Mitchell) crashes her car at the town limits after swerving to miss a girl in the road, and wakes to find Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) gone and the town buried in ash and fog. Officer Cybil Bennett (Laurie Holden) tries to arrest her, but every road ends at a cliff. As sirens sound, the town turns into a rusted nightmare full of monsters, including the Red Pyramid. Rose learns about Alessa Gillespie, a girl burned as a witch in 1974 by a cult led by Christabella (Alice Krige), and finds that Sharon is the good half of Alessa's split soul. In the real, empty town, Rose's husband Christopher (Sean Bean) searches for her with Officer Thomas Gucci.

How Silent Hill ends

Silent Hill ends with Alessa's dark side taking revenge on the cult. Christabella burns Cybil, then stabs Rose, and Alessa emerges and kills Christabella and most of her followers with razor wire, sparing her mother Dahlia. Rose escapes with Sharon, who merges with Alessa, and drives home, but the house is still grey with fog: they are trapped in the other world. In the real one, Christopher wakes alone and finds the front door open. Silent Hill: Revelation picks up years later with Sharon as a teenager.

Silent Hill: Revelation recap

Silent Hill: Revelation (2012) picks up years later with Sharon, now living as Heather Mason, on the run from the cult that wants her back. Directed by Michael J. Bassett and released in 3D, it adapts Silent Hill 3. Heather (Adelaide Clemens) and her father, Christopher, now calling himself Harry (Sean Bean), keep moving under false names; Rose sent Sharon back to the real world with half of the Seal of Metatron but stayed trapped in the fog. Heather starts seeing the town in visions. A private investigator, Douglas Cartland, is killed in front of her by a monster called the Missionary, and the Order kidnaps her father. Her classmate Vincent Cooper (Kit Harington) admits he was sent by his mother, Claudia Wolf (Carrie-Anne Moss), the Order's leader, but sides with Heather. She learns that she is part of Alessa and heads to Silent Hill.

How Silent Hill: Revelation ends

Silent Hill: Revelation ends with Heather becoming whole and the Order losing its god. She takes the second half of the Seal from Leonard Wolf (Malcolm McDowell), absorbs Dark Alessa at the Lakeside amusement park, and gives Claudia the completed Seal, which turns her into a monster; Pyramid Head kills it. Christopher stays behind to look for Rose, and Heather and Vincent leave in a truck driven by Travis Grady as police cars and a prison bus drive into the fog. No further sequel to this story followed.

Silent Hill: Ascension recap

Silent Hill: Ascension (2023) is a computer-animated interactive series where viewers voted after each episode to decide what the characters did next. Genvid Technologies developed it with Bad Robot Games and Behaviour Interactive; episodes streamed daily from October 31, 2023 into spring 2024, and viewers on PC and mobile earned Influence Points for votes by playing companion puzzles and mini-games. It adapts no single game and tells a new story set before the first game. Two families carry it. In Norway, Astrid lives with her father Karl and his sick mother Ingrid; Astrid's mother dies, she suspects her father, and her son Orson goes missing. In Pennsylvania, Rachel Hernandez is a member of the Foundation, a cult, and her daughter Faith disappears. The two women meet in the Otherworld, work out that a group called the Heralds took their children, and join forces against the Withering, a spreading curse. Faith shows signs of otherworldly power, and some townspeople want to kill her while others worship her. The series won an Emmy for innovation in emerging media in 2024.

How Silent Hill: Ascension ends

Silent Hill: Ascension ends with its twenty-first chapter, "Ascension", in which Astrid and Rachel face their own demons to learn whether they can save their children, or themselves, from the Withering. The outcome was set by the audience's votes, and the creators said in advance that they did not know how it would end. Nothing directly follows it; the next screen story is Return to Silent Hill.

Return to Silent Hill recap

Return to Silent Hill (2026) follows James Sunderland, a grieving painter who returns to Silent Hill after a letter from Mary, the woman he lost. Christophe Gans directs, and it adapts Silent Hill 2. James (Jeremy Irvine) met Mary Crane (Hannah Emily Anderson) as she was leaving town, made her miss her bus, and moved there with her. Years later he is drinking and seeing a therapist when her letter arrives. The town is foggy, ashen and nearly empty after an illness. He meets Angela, is attacked by a monster, and shelters in the Wood Side Apartments with Eddie (Pearse Egan) and the girl Laura (Evie Templeton), as Pyramid Head hunts him. He travels to Brookhaven Hospital with Maria, who looks almost exactly like Mary. Flashbacks show Mary drugged in rituals run by her father's cult, and James leaving her. At the hospital his therapist tells him Mary is dead.

How Return to Silent Hill ends

Return to Silent Hill ends with James facing what he did: months earlier he found Mary dying from the cult's drugs and, at her request, smothered her. Laura has told him that she, Maria and Angela are figments built from Mary. He apologises to the moth-like form of Mary, which becomes her body again, puts her in his car and drives off a pier. He wakes at the moment they first met, and this time drives away with her instead of taking her to Silent Hill.
