Series, 1998, Cartoon Cartoons, Set in Townsville

The Powerpuff Girls is #4 of 18 in release order and #4 of 18 in chronological order in the Cartoon Network Classics.

The story

A series about Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, three kindergarten-aged girls with superpowers, as well as their "father", the brainy scientist Professor Utonium, who all live in the fictional city of Townsville, USA. The girls are frequently called upon by the town's childlike and naive mayor to help fight nearby criminals using their powers.

The Powerpuff Girls recap

Professor Utonium tries to make the perfect little girls out of sugar, spice and everything nice, but accidentally adds Chemical X and creates the Powerpuff Girls: Blossom, the bossy, smart leader; Bubbles, the sweet, sensitive one; and Buttercup, the tough fighter. They live with the Professor in Townsville, go to kindergarten, and fly off whenever the Mayor calls on the hotline. Their villains include Mojo Jojo, a genius chimpanzee who was the Professor's lab assistant; Him, a high-voiced demon; the Gangreen Gang; Fuzzy Lumpkins; Princess Morbucks; and the Rowdyruff Boys. Ms. Bellum actually runs the city. Each episode is a self-contained story with a narrator who opens and closes it. The series runs six seasons, from 1998 to 2005, and The Powerpuff Girls Movie (2002) tells their origin, when the town first rejects the girls and Mojo Jojo uses them.

The Powerpuff Girls ending explained

The original series ends without a finale; the last episodes air in March 2005, with no closing story. A 2009 tenth anniversary special, "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!", serves as a farewell: Mojo Jojo gets the Key to the World and actually makes it better, gets bored with peace, and brings back crime so the girls can beat him again. A CGI special followed in 2014, and a rebooted series with a new cast ran from 2016 to 2019.
