The story
The Daywalker known as "Blade" - a half-vampire, half-mortal man - becomes the protector of humanity against an underground army of vampires.
Blade recap
Blade is half vampire, born as his mother was dying from a vampire bite, and has a vampire's strength but not its weaknesses, except a thirst for blood that he controls with a serum. With his mentor Whistler, he hunts the vampires who secretly rule the city. He saves the haematologist Karen Jenson after she is bitten. Deacon Frost, an ambitious young vampire scorned by the vampire elders because he was turned rather than born, wants to use an ancient prophecy to awaken La Magra, the blood god, and turn himself into it. Frost attacks Whistler's hideout, and Whistler, bitten, kills himself.
Blade ending explained
Frost captures Karen and Blade and uses Blade's blood to perform the ritual, killing the elders and becoming La Magra. Blade drinks Karen's blood to recover his strength, and then injects Frost with an anticoagulant, EDTA, that makes him explode. Karen offers to cure Blade, but he chooses to keep hunting. In Moscow, he goes after another vampire. Blade II follows.
