The BFG recap
The BFG (2016) follows Sophie, a London orphan snatched from her window by a giant who turns out to be the only kind one in Giant Country. Steven Spielberg directs Melissa Mathison's adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1982 novel for Disney. Ruby Barnhill plays Sophie, and Mark Rylance gives a motion-capture performance as the Big Friendly Giant, a 24-foot dream-catcher who speaks in a muddled language of his own and lives on foul snozzcumbers. The other giants, led by Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) and including Bloodbottler (Bill Hader), are twice his size, bully him as "Runt", and go out at night to eat children. The BFG takes Sophie to Dream Country, where he catches dreams as glowing lights in jars and blows good ones into the bedrooms of sleeping children. When the giants nearly find Sophie, he tries to send her home to keep her safe. Sophie decides to ask for help from the Queen. The BFG comes after Bridge of Spies and before The Post in Spielberg's career.
The BFG ending explained
The BFG ends with the giants marooned and Sophie living at Buckingham Palace. The BFG gives Queen Elizabeth II (Penelope Wilton) a nightmare about child-eating giants, and Sophie appears at her window to prove it. After breakfast, and fizzy frobscottle that makes the corgis break wind, the Queen sends soldiers and helicopters to Giant Country. Sophie unleashes a nightmare on the sleeping giants, and they are carried off to a remote island with only snozzcumber seeds. The BFG returns home, and Sophie still talks to him from afar. In Dahl's book, the giants are imprisoned in a giant pit.
