Star Trek V: The Final Frontier recap

Kirk, Spock and McCoy are on shore leave at Yosemite when the new Enterprise is sent to Nimbus III, the Planet of Galactic Peace, where a Vulcan renegade named Sybok has taken the Federation, Klingon and Romulan ambassadors hostage. Sybok, who turns out to be Spock's half-brother, uses his power to make people face their deepest pain and win them over. He takes the Enterprise and its crew and heads for the centre of the galaxy, past the Great Barrier, to find Sha Ka Ree, a mythical place where he believes God lives. A Klingon captain, Klaa, chases them to make a name for himself by killing Kirk.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier ending explained

On the planet beyond the barrier, the being that claims to be God asks for the ship and attacks Kirk when he questions it. Sybok realises he was fooled and sacrifices himself to hold the entity off.
