The story
After leading his football team to 15 winning seasons, coach Bill Yoast is demoted and replaced by Herman Boone – tough, opinionated and as different from the beloved Yoast as he could be. The two men learn to overcome their differences and turn a group of hostile young men into champions.

Remember the Titans (2000) follows Herman Boone, a Black coach put in charge of a newly integrated high school football team in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1971. Boaz Yakin directs the football drama, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and loosely based on the real T. C. Williams High School team. Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is named head coach over Bill Yoast (Will Patton), a successful white coach up for the state Hall of Fame. Yoast plans to leave, but stays as defensive coordinator so his white players do not boycott. At training camp at Gettysburg College, Black and white players fight, especially the captains Gerry Bertier (Ryan Hurst) and Julius Campbell (Wood Harris). Boone runs them at dawn to the Gettysburg battlefield cemetery and tells them to learn from the dead. A school board member warns Boone that one loss will cost him his job, and the team wins every game while the town slowly comes around. Remember the Titans follows Space Jam and comes before Ali.
Remember the Titans ending explained
Remember the Titans ends with Gerry's funeral in 1981, which the film opened with, and Julius leading the old team in song. Before the semi-final, Yoast learns the officials have been told to make the Titans lose and threatens to go to the press, costing himself the Hall of Fame. Gerry is paralysed in a car crash, but the Titans come back to win the state title on the final play. Gerry later wins Paralympic gold and is killed by a drunk driver. Closing text says Boone coached five more seasons with Yoast beside him for most of them, and the school gym was named after Gerry.
