Thelma & Louise recap

Thelma & Louise (1991) follows two friends whose weekend trip turns into a flight from the law after one shoots a man assaulting the other. Ridley Scott directs from Callie Khouri's Oscar-winning script. Thelma Dickinson (Geena Davis), a housewife under the thumb of her controlling husband Darryl (Christopher McDonald), and Louise Sawyer (Susan Sarandon), a waitress, head for a cabin in the Arkansas mountains. At a roadside bar, Harlan, a man Thelma danced with, tries to rape her in the parking lot, and Louise shoots him dead. Afraid no one will believe them, they run for Mexico, with Louise refusing to cross Texas. Her boyfriend Jimmy (Michael Madsen) wires her savings, and the drifter J.D. (Brad Pitt), sleeps with Thelma and steals the money. Thelma robs a store to replace it. Detective Hal Slocumb (Harvey Keitel) tries to bring them in safely. The women lock a state trooper in his trunk and blow up a lewd trucker's tanker. The main theme, "Thunderbird", sets a twangy slide guitar over the open road and their growing sense of freedom.
