Black Hawk Down recap

Black Hawk Down (2001) recreates the 1993 battle of Mogadishu, when a U.S. raid to seize two warlord aides went wrong after two helicopters were shot down. Ridley Scott directs, adapting Mark Bowden's 1999 book. Army Rangers and Delta Force operators under Major General William Garrison (Sam Shepard) fly into the Somali capital on October 3 to capture lieutenants of the warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Staff Sergeant Matt Eversmann (Josh Hartnett) leads a Ranger squad for the first time; Sergeant First Class Norm "Hoot" Gibson (Eric Bana) is a Delta veteran; Specialist John Grimes (Ewan McGregor) is a clerk pressed into the fight. Private Todd Blackburn (Orlando Bloom) falls from a helicopter during the insertion. The capture succeeds, but militia fire brings down the Black Hawk Super Six-One and then Super Six-Four. A ground convoy under Lieutenant Colonel Danny McKnight (Tom Sizemore) gets lost in the streets, and the soldiers are pinned down overnight. Zimmer's score, in cues such as "Leave No Man Behind", drives the street fighting with electric guitar and drums alongside the Senegalese singer Baaba Maal.

Black Hawk Down ending explained

Black Hawk Down ends with a United Nations relief column reaching the trapped soldiers at dawn and the survivors running the last stretch to a stadium on foot. Two Delta snipers die defending the crash site of Super Six-Four, whose pilot Michael Durant is captured. Eversmann tells a dead comrade he will tell his family. Closing titles report that 19 Americans and more than 1,000 Somalis died, and that Durant was released after 11 days.
