The Gentlemen recap
The Gentlemen (2019) follows an American cannabis baron in England whose plan to sell his empire for £400 million sets off a chain of schemes against him. Guy Ritchie's eleventh feature returns him to the London crime comedy. Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), a Rhodes scholar who grew his business inside aristocrats' estates, wants to retire with his wife Rosalind (Michelle Dockery) and sell to the billionaire Matthew Berger (Jeremy Strong). The story is told by the private investigator Fletcher (Hugh Grant), who pitches a screenplay of everything he has learned to Mickey's right-hand man Raymond (Charlie Hunnam) as blackmail. A young gangster called Dry Eye (Henry Golding) wants to buy in, a team of MMA kids trained by Coach (Colin Farrell) raids one of Mickey's farms, and a fight over an aristocrat's addicted daughter leaves the son of a Russian oligarch dead.
The Gentlemen ending explained
The Gentlemen ends with Mickey back on top. Dry Eye dies trying to attack Rosalind, Berger is locked in a freezer until he pays compensation and a pound of flesh, and Coach's fighters save Mickey from the oligarch's hitmen. Raymond has already taken back Fletcher's evidence, and Fletcher climbs into a cab that Raymond is driving. A Netflix spin-off series of the same name followed in 2024.
