The Wizard of Oz recap

Dorothy Gale, a farm girl in Kansas, runs away with her dog Toto after a neighbour, Miss Gulch, takes him to be destroyed. A tornado carries her house to the Land of Oz, where it lands on the Wicked Witch of the East and kills her. Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, gives Dorothy the dead witch's ruby slippers and tells her to follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, where the Wizard can send her home. The Wicked Witch of the West, the dead witch's sister, wants the slippers and threatens her. On the road, Dorothy is joined by a Scarecrow who wants a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The Wizard, appearing as a giant floating head, tells them to bring him the Wicked Witch's broomstick first. The Witch's flying monkeys capture Dorothy, and her friends sneak into the castle to rescue her.

How The Wizard of Oz ends

Dorothy melts the Wicked Witch of the West with a bucket of water, and wakes up at home in Kansas, surrounded by her family. Thrown on the Scarecrow to put out a fire, the water dissolves the Witch. The Wizard is exposed as an ordinary man from Kansas and gives her friends tokens of what they already had. His balloon leaves without Dorothy, and Glinda tells her she could always go home. She clicks her heels, saying "There's no place like home".

Wicked recap

As Oz celebrates the death of the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda tells the story of how she knew her. Elphaba, born green to the wife of a governor, arrives at Shiz University with her sister Nessarose, who uses a wheelchair, and is forced to room with the popular Galinda Upland. Madame Morrible, the head of sorcery, offers to tutor Elphaba, who dreams of working for the Wizard. Dr. Dillamond, a goat and the last Animal teacher, warns that Animals are losing the power to speak. Elphaba and Galinda loathe each other until a night at the Ozdust Ballroom, where Galinda dances alongside Elphaba and they become friends. The prince Fiyero chooses Galinda, though he and Elphaba share a moment freeing a caged lion cub. Dillamond is removed. The Wizard invites Elphaba to the Emerald City, and she brings Galinda, who now calls herself Glinda.

How Wicked ends

Elphaba finds the Wizard is a powerless fraud using her magic to turn monkeys into flying spies, steals the Grimmerie, and flies away on a broom, while Glinda stays behind. Morrible denounces Elphaba as a wicked witch to all of Oz. In the palace attic, Elphaba enchants a broom, asks Glinda to come with her, and the friends part. Elphaba rises above the Emerald City, vowing to fight the Wizard, and the story continues in For Good.

Wicked: For Good recap

Elphaba, now called the Wicked Witch of the West, hides in a forest and fights for the Animals, while Glinda serves as the Wizard's cheerful spokeswoman and is engaged to Fiyero, now captain of the guard. Elphaba visits Nessarose, who rules Munchkinland and will not let the Munchkins leave, and enchants her shoes so she can walk. Boq tries to leave, and Nessarose's spell to make him love her shrinks his heart; Elphaba saves him by turning him into a man of tin. Elphaba frees the caged Animals, including the now speechless Dillamond, during Glinda and Fiyero's wedding, and Fiyero leaves with her. Morrible sends a tornado that drops Dorothy's house on Nessarose. Glinda gives Dorothy the shoes, and Elphaba and Glinda fight until the guards arrive and beat Fiyero, whom Elphaba saves with a spell. The Wizard sends Dorothy and her friends to kill the witch.

How Wicked: For Good ends

Elphaba fakes her death when Dorothy throws water on her, and leaves Oz with Fiyero, who is now the Scarecrow. She first gives Glinda the Grimmerie and they say goodbye. Glinda learns that the Wizard is Elphaba's father, sends him out of Oz, has Morrible arrested and restores the Animals' rights. Fiyero finds Elphaba alive under a trapdoor, and they leave through the desert as the Grimmerie opens for Glinda.
