Knives Out recap

The morning after his 85th birthday party, mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey is found dead with his throat cut in his Massachusetts mansion. Police rule it suicide, but private detective Benoit Blanc has been hired anonymously to investigate. Every member of Harlan's family had a reason: he had cut off his son-in-law Richard for cheating, his daughter-in-law Joni for stealing, his son Walt from the publishing business, and his grandson Ransom from the will. Blanc enlists Harlan's nurse, Marta Cabrera, who cannot lie without vomiting. Marta secretly believes she killed Harlan by mixing up his medication: he told her she had given him a fatal dose of morphine and cut his own throat to protect her, after coaching her on an alibi. At the reading of the will, Harlan leaves everything to Marta, and the family turns on her.

How Knives Out ends

The family's housekeeper Fran is found overdosed with a blackmail note, and a toxicology report shows Harlan never had an overdose. Blanc reveals Ransom swapped the vials so Marta would kill Harlan and lose the inheritance, then hired Blanc and killed Fran. Marta tricks Ransom into confessing by pretending Fran survived, and he stabs her with a fake knife and is arrested. Marta looks down from the balcony at the family, holding her coffee mug.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery recap

In May 2020, tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his old friends, the "disruptors", to his private Greek island for a murder mystery game: Connecticut governor Claire Debella, scientist Lionel Toussaint, fashion designer Birdie Jay and her assistant Peg, men's rights streamer Duke Cody and his girlfriend Whiskey, and his former business partner Cassandra "Andi" Brand, whom he forced out of their company Alpha. Benoit Blanc arrives with an invitation Miles never sent. Blanc solves Miles' game in minutes. Andi is cold to everyone, and they all depend on Miles and lied in court to back him over Andi. Duke drops dead after drinking from Miles' glass, the lights go out, and a gunshot hits Andi. Blanc reveals that Andi died a week earlier, and the woman on the island is her twin sister Helen, who came with Blanc to find the proof that Miles killed her.

How Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery ends

Blanc explains that Miles killed Andi to destroy the napkin proving she founded Alpha, then poisoned Duke, who had worked it out. Helen survived the shot thanks to Andi's journal in her pocket, but Miles burns the napkin. Helen smashes his glass sculptures and sets fire to the Glass Onion with his dangerous Klear fuel, destroying the Mona Lisa on loan there. The guests turn on Miles at last, and he faces ruin.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery recap

Jud Duplenticy, a former boxer turned young priest, is sent to Our Lady of Perpetual Fortitude, a small parish in upstate New York run by the fiery Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, who has driven away all but a loyal few. Jud clashes with him openly. During the Good Friday service, Wicks collapses inside a locked closet and is found dead with a blade shaped from a devil's-head finial in his back, a finial Jud had stolen a twin of. Police chief Geraldine Scott calls in Benoit Blanc, who believes Jud is innocent and recruits him as a partner. The congregation, including the church secretary Martha Delacroix, the groundskeeper Samson and the parishioner Nat Sharp, all hide secrets. Wicks' body then disappears from his tomb, and he seems to rise from the dead.

How Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery ends

Blanc reveals Nat stabbed Wicks with an accomplice's help, and Martha confesses to the rest: Wicks' grandfather swallowed a priceless diamond, Eve's Apple, before killing himself, and Martha, fearing Wicks would destroy the church, plotted with Nat. Samson staged the resurrection and was killed by Nat, who then poisoned Martha's coffee; she swapped the cups, killing him, then took the poison herself. A year later, the diamond is hidden inside Jud's newly carved crucifix.
