Avatar recap
In 2154, Jake Sully, a paraplegic former marine, takes his dead twin brother's place in the Avatar Program on Pandora, where humans control genetically matched Na'vi bodies. The RDA corporation wants the valuable mineral unobtanium under Hometree, the home of the Omaticaya clan. Dr. Grace Augustine runs the science program; Colonel Miles Quaritch, the head of security, secretly pays Jake to gather intelligence in return for surgery on his legs. Lost in the forest, Jake is saved by Neytiri, daughter of the clan's leaders, and the Omaticaya agree to teach him their ways. He learns to ride a banshee, falls in love with Neytiri and comes to see the forest's network, linked to the goddess Eywa, as real. The RDA bulldozers advance, Jake confesses he was a spy, and the RDA destroys Hometree.
How Avatar ends
Jake tames the great Toruk and rallies the clans. In the battle, Grace has already died, and Eywa sends Pandora's wildlife to help the Na'vi. Jake destroys the RDA bomber, and Neytiri kills Quaritch with two arrows as he tries to kill Jake's human body. Most humans are sent back to Earth, and Jake's mind is transferred permanently into his avatar body through the Tree of Souls.

Avatar: The Way of Water recap
More than a decade later, Jake leads the Omaticaya and has a family with Neytiri: sons Neteyam and Lo'ak, daughter Tuk, and the adopted Kiri, born from Grace's avatar body. Spider, a human boy left behind on Pandora and the son of Quaritch, lives with them. The RDA returns to colonise Pandora. Quaritch has been brought back in a Na'vi body with his old memories and hunts Jake, capturing Spider, who teaches him to survive in the forest. To protect his clan, Jake takes his family to the reef people, the Metkayina, led by Tonowari and Ronal. The children learn to swim and ride sea creatures, Kiri feels a deep bond with Eywa, and Lo'ak befriends Payakan, an outcast tulkun, a whale-like creature. Quaritch joins a crew hunting tulkun to draw Jake out.
How Avatar: The Way of Water ends
Quaritch kidnaps Tuk and the Metkayina girls, and the Sullys fight his crew at sea. Payakan helps destroy the whaling ship, but Neteyam is shot and dies. Jake and Neytiri fight Quaritch on the sinking ship and rescue their children; Jake chokes Quaritch unconscious, and Spider saves Quaritch from drowning, then returns to the Sullys. The family stays with the Metkayina, and Jake vows to keep fighting. Fire and Ash continues the story.

Avatar: Fire and Ash recap
The Sullys grieve Neteyam among the Metkayina. When Spider's breathing mask fails, Kiri fills his lungs with mycelia from Eywa, and he can breathe Pandora's air without it. Jake decides Spider must go back to the humans, but the convoy carrying him is attacked by the Mangkwan, the Ash People, a clan who rejected Eywa, led by the fierce Varang. Quaritch captures Jake and Spider and makes an alliance with Varang, giving her clan guns and flamethrowers; the two become lovers. The RDA, learning of Spider's ability, wants to use him to let humans breathe on Pandora. Jake is held for execution and freed, and he cannot bring himself to kill Spider to keep the secret. Neytiri infiltrates the RDA base, delivers Ronal's baby when Ronal dies in childbirth, and is captured. Lo'ak persuades the tulkun to give up their pacifism. Jake rebonds with Toruk and rallies the clans.
How Avatar: Fire and Ash ends
The Na'vi and the tulkun ambush the RDA fleet. Kiri finally reaches Eywa and asks for help, and Pandora's creatures attack the remaining RDA forces. Kiri drives off Varang before she can kill Neytiri. Jake and Quaritch fight in a magnetic storm, and when Spider falls from a floating rock, they work together to save him. As Neytiri and the children arrive, Quaritch throws himself off the rock. Spider meets the dead Na'vi in the spirit trees, and Kiri and Grace welcome him as one of the people. Avatar 4 is scheduled for December 2029.
