Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. recap

A year later, the Shobijin, Mothra's fairies, visit Shinichi Chujo, who met Mothra in 1961, and his grandson Shun and nephew Yoshito, a Kiryu mechanic. They warn that Kiryu, built from Godzilla's bones, disturbs the dead and draws Godzilla back; Japan must return the bones to the sea, and Mothra will protect Japan instead. The government refuses. Godzilla returns to Tokyo, and Mothra comes to fight it, followed by Kiryu, piloted this time by Kyosuke Akiba while Akane is abroad. Mothra is killed, and twin larvae hatch on Himago Island and swim to help. The prime minister promises to end the project if Kiryu kills Godzilla. In the battle, Mothra shields others from Godzilla's breath and dies. Kiryu breaks down, and Yoshito climbs inside to repair it and is trapped when the hatch jams.

Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. ending explained

Kiryu, acting on its own, carries the cocooned Godzilla out to sea and sinks with it into a deep trench. The larvae bind Godzilla in silk, and Akiba is ordered to kill it, but Kiryu refuses. The pilot Azusa blasts open the hatch, Kiryu rolls over so Yoshito can escape, and then it flies off with Godzilla and plunges into the ocean. Japan celebrates, Yoshito salutes Kiryu, and the larvae and Shobijin head back to Infant Island.
