Doctor Who: Series 8 recap

The Twelfth Doctor is older, colder and unsure whether he is a good man, and Clara has to learn to trust him again. She starts dating Danny Pink, an ex-soldier who teaches maths at her school, and hides her travels from him. The Doctor shrinks into a Dalek, meets Robin Hood, sends Clara to the Moon and leaves her with a terrible choice, and fights a mummy on a train. In several episodes, people who die wake in a place called the Nethersphere, run by a woman called Missy.

Doctor Who: Series 8 ending explained

Danny is killed in a car accident, and the Nethersphere turns out to be a Time Lord data store where Missy has uploaded the minds of the dead. Missy is the Master, now a woman, and she turns the dead into an army of Cybermen as a gift so the Doctor can rule the world. Danny, as a Cyberman, leads them to destroy themselves, and Missy is seemingly killed. The Doctor and Clara each lie to the other that they are fine and part ways, until Christmas brings them back together.
