The story

Allison "Sonny" Munroe makes the leap from the Midwest to Los Angeles to join the cast of "So Random!," the most popular sketch comedy TV show for kids and tweens. Her fellow young actors are resident teen queen Tawni, super suave Nico, gregarious funnyman Grady and quirky Zora. Now Sonny must somehow balance these new friendships while adjusting to her family's decidedly different way of life in Hollywood. Meanwhile, Sonny must also contend with heartthrob Chad Dylan Cooper, star of the rival show "MacKenzie Falls," who makes it known that he thinks his dramatic work is better than her comedy career.

Sonny with a Chance recap

Sonny Munroe, a cheerful girl from Wisconsin who got noticed for her online comedy videos, moves to Hollywood to join So Random!, a teen sketch show. The show follows life on and off set with her castmates: the vain Tawni Hart, best friends Nico and Grady, and the odd youngest member Zora, who lives in the air vents. Down the hall is the rival drama Mackenzie Falls and its self-absorbed star Chad Dylan Cooper, who clashes with Sonny from the start. Each episode mixes backstage plots with So Random! sketches. In the second season, Chad asks Sonny out and they start dating, breaking up and making up several times while the two shows compete for awards, including the Tween Choice Awards.

Sonny with a Chance ending explained

Sonny with a Chance ended without a proper finale. The last episode, "New Girl" (2011), has Sonny writing a song about her breakup with Chad and singing it at an open mic night, still clearly attached to him. Demi Lovato left to focus on her health and music, and the remaining cast continued without Sonny in the sketch spin-off So Random! (2011 to 2012).
