Lizzie McGuire

Series, 2001, The shows, Set in Hillridge Junior High

Lizzie McGuire is #8 of 23 in release order and #8 of 23 in chronological order in the Disney Channel Classics.

The story

Lizzie McGuire is all about the ordinary and not-so-ordinary adventures of a junior high student and her two best friends as they try to deal with the ups and downs of school, popularity, boys, parents, a bratty little brother--just life in general. And if Lizzie leaves anything unsaid, you can bet that her cartoon alter ego will say it for her!

Lizzie McGuire recap

Lizzie McGuire is an ordinary 13-year-old at Hillridge Junior High, and an animated version of Lizzie pops up to say what she is really thinking. Her best friends are Miranda Sanchez and David "Gordo" Gordon; her main rival is Kate Sanders, her former best friend turned popular girl; her crush is Ethan Craft; and at home her little brother Matt runs schemes with his silent friend Lanny while her parents try to keep up. The first season is mostly standalone episodes about school, crushes, embarrassment and friendship. In the second season, Lizzie dates Ronnie and later goes out with Ethan, Gordo skips a grade and comes back, and Miranda is absent from the last batch of episodes because Lalaine left to make another film. The series builds toward the friends' graduation from junior high.

Lizzie McGuire ending explained

In "Bye Bye Hillridge Junior High," the chronological finale, Lizzie and her friends graduate and sign each other's yearbooks; Gordo writes something heartfelt in Lizzie's and gets a kiss from her during the class photo. The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) picks up straight after. A Disney+ revival with Hilary Duff as a 30-year-old Lizzie was announced in 2019 and went into production, but it was cancelled in December 2020 after the showrunner left.
