Cadet Kelly recap
Kelly Collins is a free-spirited art-school kid until her mother marries Joe Maxwell, a brigadier general who becomes commandant of George Washington Military Academy, and Kelly has to enrol there. She makes a friend in Carla, but Cadet Captain Jennifer Stone rides her mercilessly, calling her "maggot," and the two compete over Cadet Major Brad Rigby. At a dance, Kelly accidentally ruins Jennifer's dress, which makes things worse. After Kelly paints Jennifer's hair, she is found guilty in cadet court and sentenced to shine the drill team's uniforms, which brings her round to the team she had mocked, and she earns a place on it. Kelly also learns her mother is pregnant and tries to help Joe, whom she calls "Sir," get ready to be a father.
Cadet Kelly ending explained
On the day of regionals, Kelly's biological father Adam goes missing on a climb; Joe drives her to find him and she rappels down the cliff to stay with him until rescue arrives, and Joe hugs her instead of saluting. Kelly gets back in time for the drill team to perform the routine she built with Jennifer, and they finish second by one point. Jennifer, who is moving to Europe, finally praises her. In the last scene Kelly salutes Joe on her own and he salutes back.
