Gravity Falls recap

Twelve-year-old twins Dipper and Mabel Pines spend the summer with their great-uncle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon, where he runs the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap. Dipper finds a journal, marked with a six-fingered hand, describing the town's hidden monsters and secrets, and he and the always-optimistic Mabel start investigating, joined by the handyman Soos and the cool teenage cashier Wendy, whom Dipper has a crush on. The first season is a run of monster-of-the-week mysteries that introduces Bill Cipher, a triangle-shaped dream demon. In season 2 the mysteries connect: Stan reveals he has been running a portal under the Shack to bring back his twin brother Ford, the journals' author, who has been trapped in other dimensions for 30 years. Bill tricks Mabel into breaking open a rift, and his monsters take over the town.

Gravity Falls ending explained

In the three-part "Weirdmageddon" finale (2016), the town fights back against Bill, and Stan lets Bill into his mind so Ford can erase it with a memory gun, destroying Bill and Stan's memories with him. Mabel helps Stan recover his memories with her scrapbook. The twins turn 13 and go home to California, Soos takes over the Mystery Shack, and Stan and Ford sail off together. The story continued in books, including The Book of Bill (2024).
