The story
In 1991 Miami, Dexter Morgan transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can't be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements' radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

In 1991, a college-age Dexter makes his first kill, the nurse who has been poisoning Harry, and Harry turns his urges into the code: only kill people who deserve it, and never get caught. Dexter starts as a forensics intern at Miami Metro while Debra fights with Harry for his attention. The big case is the kidnapping of Nicky Spencer, son of the homicide captain Aaron Spencer, and a string of children taken by the same captor. Meanwhile Harry carries on an affair with Laura Moser, his informant, and Dexter's older brother Brian, now grown up after foster homes and an institution, starts killing too and watches Dexter work. Adult Dexter narrates it all from the moment Harrison shot him.
Dexter: Original Sin ending explained
Dexter works out that Captain Spencer staged his own son's kidnapping to punish his ex-wife. He chooses to save Nicky first, then catches Spencer as he goes after her and kills him on his boat, dropping the body in the sea: the start of Dexter's signature method. The season ends with the Morgans celebrating at a Cuban restaurant as Debra announces she wants to join the police, while Brian watches them through the window. The show was cancelled after this one season.
