The story

The truth revealed through the memories of Grisha's journals shakes all of Eren's deepest beliefs. There is no rugged but free land beyond the walls. There is a whole other world, equally full of oppression and war. Suddenly, the ambitions that have animated the Survey Corps for generations seem small and naive. What is there left to fight for?

Attack on Titan: The Final Season recap

This is the fourth and final season, including the Final Chapters specials. Four years later, the story moves to Marley, where Eldians live in internment zones and children such as Gabi Braun and Falco Grice train to inherit the Titans. Reiner, now a broken veteran, returns to Liberio. Eren, who has secretly come to Marley, attacks during a festival, eats the War Hammer Titan and escapes with the Survey Corps, and Gabi kills Sasha Blouse in revenge. Back on Paradis, Eren works with his half brother Zeke, whose plan is to sterilise all Eldians, but Eren has his own goal. When Eren and Zeke touch, Eren reaches the Paths and takes the Founding Titan's full power. He starts the Rumbling: millions of Colossal Titans released from the walls march to trample the world beyond Paradis. Mikasa, Armin, Levi, Hange, Jean, Connie, Annie, Reiner and Pieck form an alliance to stop him, and Hange dies covering their escape.

Attack on Titan: The Final Season ending explained

The alliance fights its way onto Eren's giant Titan as the Rumbling kills most of humanity outside Paradis. Levi kills Zeke, and Mikasa kills Eren, kissing his severed head, which ends the Titans' power. Eren reveals to Armin that he chose this path to free Paradis and to make his friends heroes. In the epilogue, the survivors negotiate peace, Paradis grows into a military power, and Mikasa visits Eren's grave for the rest of her life.
