Everything Everywhere All at Once recap
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) follows Evelyn Wang, a laundromat owner facing a tax audit, who must jump between parallel universes to save them. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known as Daniels, write and direct. Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh) runs the struggling business with her gentle husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan), who is quietly preparing divorce papers, while her demanding father Gong Gong (James Hong) visits and her daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu) wants her girlfriend Becky accepted. At the IRS, inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre (Jamie Lee Curtis) grills them, and a version of Waymond from the Alphaverse takes over his body. He explains that every choice spawns a universe, that people can borrow skills from other versions of themselves by doing absurd things, and that a being called Jobu Tupaki is destroying everything. Jobu turns out to be another version of Joy, carrying a black everything bagel that could swallow the multiverse. The film stands alone.
Everything Everywhere All at Once ending explained
Everything Everywhere All at Once ends with Evelyn choosing kindness over the void. Jobu, who sees every universe at once and believes nothing matters, has been looking for an Evelyn who agrees, so they can vanish into the bagel together. Evelyn nearly goes, then takes Waymond's plea for kindness to heart and fights Jobu's followers with empathy. She tells Joy she would always choose to be here with her, and pulls her back from the bagel. The family returns to the IRS to redo their taxes. The film won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and acting awards for Yeoh, Quan and Curtis.
