The Matrix recap
Thomas Anderson, a programmer and hacker called Neo, is contacted by the rebel Trinity and her leader Morpheus. Morpheus offers him a red pill, and Neo wakes in a pod in the real world, around 2199, where machines farm humans for energy and keep their minds in a simulation called the Matrix. Morpheus believes Neo is the One, prophesied to free humanity. On the hovercraft Nebuchadnezzar, Neo learns to bend the rules of the Matrix, and the Oracle hints that he is not the One. Cypher, a crew member tired of the real world, betrays them to the Agents so he can be reinserted into the Matrix, and Morpheus is captured.
The Matrix ending explained
Neo and Trinity rescue Morpheus from a building guarded by Agents. Agent Smith shoots Neo dead, but Trinity tells his body she loves him, he revives, stops bullets in mid-air, and destroys Smith from inside. Neo phones the machines to say he will show people a world without rules, then flies into the sky. The Matrix Reloaded follows.
